Faith Rise Animal Sanctuary

About

Faith Rise Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a compassionate refuge for animals who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected. Based in New Jersey, our mission is to provide lifelong care, healing, compassion, and safety to animals in need, guided by the belief that every life is worth protecting.

We are currently in the foundational stages of building this vision. While we work toward securing land and constructing sanctuary facilities, we are also exploring early-impact initiatives (such as offering spay/neuter services) to begin serving animals and the community as soon as possible. These services would not only help reduce suffering and overpopulation but also serve as a stepping stone toward our long-term goals.

In the future, Faith Rise Animal Sanctuary plans to expand to include a full on-site veterinary hospital and, eventually, licensed wildlife rehabilitation, ensuring that animals of all kinds have access to care, respect, and a second chance.

The name “Faith Rise” reflects the heart of our mission: a belief that through faith, persistence, and the kindness of others, this sanctuary will become a place of restoration, peace, and purpose. Every contribution brings us closer to opening our gates and welcoming those who need us most.

We invite you to join us in laying the foundation for something life-changing.

Sarah Matthews, DVM

Veterinarian

Founder and Board President
For over 12 years, Dr. Matthews has been driven by a lifelong dream: to create a sanctuary for abandoned and abused animals. That passion inspired her to pursue a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and dedicate her career to animal welfare. In preparation for this goal, she sought out diverse experiences working with a wide range of animal species, building a deep and versatile foundation of knowledge.

Now, as her dream begins to take shape, Dr. Matthews is committed to using her expertise to care for animals in need, regardless of their species.

Nicholas DeRoma, CVT

Certified Veterinary Technician

Board Secretary
Nick is a veterinary technologist and board-eligible veterinary technician specialist in behavioral medicine. He is passionate about animal welfare, bioethics, and access to veterinary care. In addition to behavior, he has a strong interest in the subspecialty of veterinary neuropsychiatry, as well as clinical interests in neurology, anesthesia, pain management, shelter medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, and bovine medicine.

In his free time, Nick enjoys riding his on-road/off-road motorcycle, surfing, and reading. He is honored to serve as a board member for Faith Rise Animal Sanctuary, as he believes the human-animal bond is instrumental in bringing more empathy into the world.

A. B., M. Div

Chaplain

Board Treasurer

A.B., a minister and chaplain for over 20 years, has always loved animals. Before obtaining her Master of Divinity (M. Div.) and going into the ministry, she served as the treasurer at her home church, putting her undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Business Administration to work.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys gardening, brushing up on languages with Duolingo, reading, and spending time with her cats (one of whom is pictured above).

Hanna Jung, DVM

Veterinarian

Board Director
Dr. Jung became a vet to help strengthen the human-animal bond and improve the quality of life for animals. She performs spay/neuter services for cats and dogs to help with pet overpopulation and reduce animal suffering. She adores her cats (one of whom is pictured above) and spoils them rotten, to which they respond with silent apathy.

Sandra Saray, DVM

Veterinarian

Board Director

Dr. Saray is a second-generation veterinarian, inspired by her father, who was the first in their family to practice veterinary medicine. Growing up, she witnessed him care for countless animals (often at no charge to families in need), which deeply influenced her path.

She now lives on a farm with her husband, their twin boys, and a variety of rescued animals. Dr. Saray provides mobile veterinary services to low-income communities and is honored to serve on the Board of Directors at Faith Rise Animal Sanctuary, an organization whose mission and values she proudly supports.

While these animals are not part of our sanctuary, they offer a glimpse into the kinds of lives we hope to protect and care for in the future with your help.
